Siding Installation & Replacement in Salem, Oregon

New siding is more than a new look. Done right, it is a fresh weather barrier that keeps Oregon rain out of your walls for decades.

Siding installation with sheathing and ladder on a home exterior in Gervais, OR

A siding project is really a wall project. Behind the boards sit sheathing, a water-resistive barrier and flashing around every window and door, and the siding itself is the visible shield over all of it. When we replace siding, we get to see the condition of the wall for the first time in years, and that moment is when we catch soft sheathing, failed flashing and hidden leaks.

Many homes around Gervais and Salem wear horizontal lap siding in muted grays, creams and blues, and a growing number mix in board-and-batten or panel accents. We have installed and replaced lap siding on single-story homes, working around windows, porch posts and rooflines, and finishing each wall with trim that sheds water instead of trapping it.

Choosing the product is only part of the decision. We will talk through the material, color and profile, but also what has to happen behind it: housewrap and tape, kick-out flashing where roofs meet walls, sealed penetrations and a clear drainage path at the bottom edge.

Signs it is time for new siding

  • Boards are warped, cracked or buckled, and repairs keep failing
  • Paint peels or bubbles repeatedly because moisture is working from behind
  • Soft or spongy spots show up when you press on lower courses
  • Water stains or mildew appear on interior walls below windows
  • Your heating bills climb and drafts come from exterior walls

How we install siding

  1. Strip and inspect the wallOld siding comes off and we check sheathing and framing for moisture damage before anything new goes up.
  2. Repair and weatherproofDamaged sheathing is replaced, then a water-resistive barrier is taped and flashing is installed at windows, doors and roof-wall joints.
  3. Install siding and trimBoards are installed level with correct gaps and fasteners, then trim and corner pieces are set and sealed.
  4. Caulk, finish and clean upJoints are caulked, paint or finish is applied where needed and the site is cleaned of cut-offs and debris.

Questions about siding installation & replacement

Should I choose fiber-cement, vinyl or wood siding?
Fiber-cement resists rot and holds paint well but is heavier and costs more to install. Vinyl is affordable and low-maintenance but has less depth and can crack in impact. Wood looks best and is repairable but needs regular finishing. We help you match the product to your home and budget.
Do I need housewrap under new siding?
Yes. A water-resistive barrier behind the siding is an essential layer, and we tape and flash it so rain that gets past the siding drains out the bottom instead of soaking the wall.
Can new siding go over old siding?
Sometimes, but covering old siding hides moisture damage and adds thickness at windows and corners. For most homes we recommend removing the old siding so we can inspect and repair the wall.
How long does a siding project take?
A single-story home often takes one to two weeks, depending on size, weather and repairs. We give you a schedule with the quote.
Does siding replacement need a permit?
It depends on your jurisdiction and whether the work changes sheathing or structure. We confirm requirements with your local building department.
