Bathroom Remodeling in Portland, Oregon

A bathroom has to resist water every day. We rebuild showers, vanities and floors watertight, then finish them cleanly.

Bathrooms are small rooms with big demands. Every surface sees water, steam and daily use, which is why bathroom failures, leaks behind a shower wall, soft subfloors around a toilet, peeling paint from poor ventilation, tend to be expensive. A good remodel is mostly about what you do not see: waterproofing, slope, blocking and ventilation.

In Portland, many homes date from the early and mid-twentieth century, with bathrooms squeezed into tight footprints and walls that hide older plumbing. Newer ranch-style homes in the surrounding valley have more room but often the same worn fiberglass tubs and dated vanities. We have recently completed a remodel with a new shower unit, fresh vanity and plank flooring in a compact bathroom, so tight spaces are familiar territory.

We start with how you use the room, then decide whether a one-piece shower, a tiled shower or a tub makes sense. From there we plan ventilation, lighting, storage and flooring so the room works as well as it looks.

Signs your bathroom needs a remodel

  • Soft or discolored flooring around the tub or toilet
  • Cracked grout, loose tiles or mildew you cannot get rid of
  • A tub or shower surround that leaks, flexes or has cracked
  • A fan that barely moves air, leaving mirrors fogged and walls damp
  • A layout or vanity that has not suited your household for years

How we remodel a bathroom

  1. Plan fixtures, layout and ventilationWe settle the shower or tub type, vanity size, lighting and fan, and confirm what plumbing or electrical changes are needed.
  2. Demolish and inspectOld fixtures, flooring and wall coverings come out so we can check the subfloor, framing and pipes for damage.
  3. Waterproof and rough inWe repair framing, update plumbing and electrical, hang moisture-resistant board and seal wet areas before finishes go on.
  4. Finish and testShower, vanity, flooring, trim, paint and accessories are installed, and every fixture is tested before the final walkthrough.

Questions about bathroom remodeling

How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A basic bathroom often takes one to two weeks. Layout changes, tile work and special-order fixtures can stretch that, and we give you a schedule when we quote.
Can you turn my tub into a walk-in shower?
Often yes, if the plumbing and floor allow. We check drain location, framing and slope, then choose a shower base or a tiled design to fit.
Do I need an exhaust fan?
Bathrooms need ventilation to control moisture, either an exhaust fan or an openable window under the code. Even where a window exists, a quiet, properly vented fan protects walls and paint.
Why is waterproofing so important?
Water behind a shower wall or under a floor can rot framing and grow mold long before you see a sign. Proper waterproofing and slope prevent that damage.
Does a bathroom remodel need a permit?
Replacing fixtures in place often does not, while moving plumbing, adding circuits or changing walls typically does. We confirm with your local building department.
