Drywall Contractor in Salem, Oregon

Smooth, flat walls and ceilings start with careful drywall. We hang, tape, mud and sand until the surface disappears under paint.

Drywall mudding and finishing on a vaulted ceiling in a home in Gervais, OR

Drywall looks simple and is not. Hanging the boards is the easy part. The craft is in the finishing: setting tape over every seam, then applying several thin coats of joint compound, each sanded smooth after it dries, so light skimming across the wall shows nothing. Rush any of those steps and ridges, cracks and visible screw heads show through paint for years.

Many of the homes we work on have vaulted ceilings and tall walls that call for scaffolding and careful lighting during finishing. Our recent projects include drywall in rooms with raised ceilings, where large patched areas had to be feathered into the surrounding surface. The same process handles water-damaged ceilings, holes from removed fixtures and the clean new walls of a finished addition.

We hang and finish drywall as part of remodels and additions, and we also take on repair-only jobs. After the final sanding, we prime the surface so paint goes on evenly, and if you want us to paint, we can do that too.

When you need a drywall contractor

  • You have water-stained, sagging or cracked ceilings or wall sections
  • A remodel or addition has opened walls that need to be closed and finished
  • Old patches or nail pops show through paint, especially in side light
  • You want to remove popcorn texture or smooth a textured ceiling
  • Holes from removed cabinets, doors or fixtures need repair before painting

How we hang and finish drywall

  1. Prepare and hang the boardFraming is checked for flatness, then sheets are cut, hung and screwed off, with moisture-resistant board used in wet areas.
  2. Tape the seamsPaper or mesh tape is embedded in joint compound over every seam and inside corner, and corner bead protects outside edges.
  3. Apply and sand coatsMultiple thin coats of compound are applied, feathered wider each time and sanded smooth between coats once dry.
  4. Prime and match textureWalls get a coat of primer, and any texture is matched or reapplied so patches blend with the rest of the room.

What affects the price of drywall work

Drywall is priced by area and difficulty. These are the main factors.

Square footageLarger areas take more boards, compound and labor, but cost per square foot usually drops with size.
Ceiling height and shapeVaulted and high ceilings require scaffolding and slow the work.
Level of finishSmoother finishes for gloss paint or critical lighting take extra coats and sanding.
Repairs versus new workPatching damaged areas requires feathering and texture matching, which can take as long as new boards.
Texture and primingMatching knockdown, orange peel or smoothing surfaces is priced separately from the base finishing.

Why choose Frank General Contractor for drywall

  • Drywall is done by the same crew that framed, so walls start flat and square
  • We finish for the final paint sheen and lighting, not just to cover seams
  • Repairs are feathered wide and primed so patches do not show

Questions about drywall

How long does drywall take?
Hanging can go quickly, but finishing needs several coats with drying time between them, so even a small room usually takes a few days. Larger projects take proportionally longer.
Is drywall dusty?
Sanding compound creates dust. We cover floors and doorways, limit spread and clean up, but it is a messy stage and worth planning around.
Can you repair a water-damaged ceiling?
Yes, once the leak is fixed and the area is dry. We cut out wet or damaged board, replace it and finish the patch. If the source is a roof leak, we can address that too.
Can you match my existing wall texture?
In most cases we can match common textures such as knockdown or orange peel. Smooth walls are the easiest to repair invisibly.
What is a Level 4 or Level 5 finish?
These are finishing grades. Level 4 is a standard smooth finish for flat paint, and Level 5 adds a skim coat for the smoothest result under glossy paint or strong side light.
